Logical thinking puzzles challenge and entertain those who attempt them, and also help shape the thought process. For the first 21 years of life, I only knew the term ‘programming’. It had a mystic quality to it, the whole idea that everything and anything you saw around you could be programmed. Now, programming could be analogous/hardware based, or digital/software based. A simple example could be how your fan is programmed to rotate at higher speeds as the regulator is turned upwards, versus how your latest TV is programmed to switch channels when you press the swap or back button on your remote, retrieving data from its flash memory about which was the previous channel. I had understood this much by the time I turned 21. And I had learnt a few lines of BASIC programming, heard of FORTRAN & COBOL, of the ubiquitous C, and the scary JAVA. But that was the limit of my information on programming, and that’s where I intended to keep it.

After the successful completion of the 2-day hackathon, the team came out with a new web programming language (tentatively named WPL) that has significant advantages over the conventional method of programming for the web. A wiki is being created to show samples of WPL code and the generated HTML, and will be online shortly here.

This poem was submitted to us by our dear student Aditya, back in 2000, and was put up in our notice board. He was one of the first students in the history of CyberPlus. He had first joined us for Data Structures in his 3rd semester, and later joined many other courses here in subsequent semesters. He was instrumental in bringing many of his friends from his class to CyberPlus, who then brought in their friends, and eventually we had almost the whole batch of CSE & ISE from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering in CyberPlus!! Thank you Aditya! We will never forget your valuable contribution when CyberPlus had just started!

The new and delete operators can also be overloaded like other operators in C++. There are interesting possibilities of doing the same. However, some care should be taken regarding the parameters to accept, value to return and place to declare. This article covers all possible forms of overloading these operators and their uses.
